On the occasion of the World Athletics Championships, the region is reaffirming its commitment to the world of sport as it spends nine days under the spotlight.
Present at all stadiums
For the second time in five years, the Ile-de-France region is at the centre of the world’s hottest sporting action. After the World Cup in 1998, it is once again welcoming on its soil a global event that will attract to the capital hundreds of thousands of visitors, journalists and top-level athletes from all continents of the earth.
As an institutional partner of the French Athletics Federation and of CPOSD 2003, the region has been playing a full part in the World Championships since the announcement that France would be hosting the event, raising awareness of the competition among young people and the amateur athletics public around all of the region’s stadiums.
On all the world’s screens
During the World Championships, the council is also making its presence felt among the general public at the Stade de France®, with a kiosk at Gate J for all tourist information, plus a stand at the Louvre Carrousel. “The region will do all in its power to demonstrate that Ile-de-France is synonymous with hospitality, generosity and kindness », declared its chairman Jean-Paul Huchon.
And in order to showcase its cultural riches, the region has also put in place a free service for journalists. From the Media Centre, it is possible for foreign television teams, for example, to take advantage of a bus service, to obtain authorisation to film in Paris and to book interpreters. Around twenty channels have already benefited from this. With the Stade de France® currently basking in glorious sunshine, it would be a crime to miss out.
