Transmitting data to the entire world
Internet connections, data transmission and, of course, telephony, France Télécom has quite a bit on its plate! 250 staff were busy before the event, setting up the infrastructure and terminals required. As a result of their endeavours, over 1,200 lines (analogue, digital and ADSL) are meeting the needs of journalists and accredited persons. During the nine days of competition, 120 technicians remain on call to resolve any problems, whilst also ensuring the smooth running of the communication networks, which include some 800 walkie-talkies dotted around the Stade de France and the Athletes Village.
The media also require results in real time. With this in mind, France Télécom installed the fibre optic network cabling required to transmit the data. It’s an achievement which means pictures of the World Championships are distributed to around fifty television companies all over the globe.

Furthermore, for the comfort of the accredited persons and public alike, the group has doubled the traffic flow capacity to an upper limit of 30,000 calls per hour. Visitors can also take advantage of exclusive promotional offers, available on the company’s stand set up within the Partners Village (Gate B). For example, the Motorola C350 phone is on offer at nearly half the usual price.
The 3,600 Volunteers won’t be leaving with their hands empty either, for if they drop by the stand, they’ll be given a free gift! One of the sales staff of even the France Télécom sales manager on duty there will present them with three collectors’ phone cards in the colours of the event, with a total of 30 minutes worth of free calls.
