FLYING THE FLAG FOR SPORTING VALUES
Paris 2003 Saint-Denis
The French Ministry of Sport is taking advantage of the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics to launch a new campaign promoting sporting values.
“France is a country which loves sport and respects sporting values.” So said Sports Minister Jean-François Lamour at the press conference before the Opening Ceremony of the Athletics World Championships as he introduced the exciting new campaign.
Essentially, the initiative highlights the values of sport, namely commitment, brotherhood, team spirit, respect, development and surpassing oneself. It is these values that the Ministry’s team will be promoting at its stand between gates K and L of the Stade de France® throughout the nine days of the Championships. But the public will also be able to find information there on subjects as diverse as employment, gaining diplomas, stadium security, etc.
“We are also raising awareness amongst young people about the move to combat violence and incivility in sport”, expands Caroline, one of the stand managers. This is the theme of the Ministry’s other big campaign. Postcards are also available there depicting French sporting sensations such as Yannick Noah, Jackson Richardson, Stéphane Diagana and Abdelatif Benazzi.
And throughout the duration of the World Championships, 9,000 posters promoting sporting values are being distributed by the Ministry’s regional offices, together with 3000 more by the RATP.
