PARTNERS' VILLAGE |
EUROVISION AND TBS: TV FOR ALL
Paris 2003 Saint-Denis
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Japanese broadcaster TBS, Partners to the World Championships in Athletics, are responsible for broadcasting this showpiece event to billions of viewers around the globe.
Founded in 1950, Eurovision has been an IAAF Partner for a number of years now. Its mission via the EBU, as an image nerve centre for more than 70 TV channels in 52 countries, includes the transmission of the World Championships in Athletics. 85 hours of live coverage are beamed to 4.5 billion viewers around the world, particularly in Eurovision member countries in Africa and Europe.
At the Stade de France®, Eurovision have been hard at work providing technical assistance to the many different networks. Should they require any specific equipment or any problems occur with cabling, for example, the broadcaster’s staff have been there to lend a helping hand.
The same applies to Partner TBS, the Japanese broadcaster. Tokyo Broadcasting System is one of the four major commercial terrestrial networks in Japan and the only one which provides both television and radio broadcasting services. TBS has been an Official IAAF Broadcaster since 1996 and provided very extensive coverage of the IAAF events.
For the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Paris 2003 Saint-Denis, the TBS team consisted of nearly 130 technicians and staff. No doubt they will be delighted with the gold medals won by their men and women’s marathon teams, individual silver and bronze medallists won by their female marathon runners and the bronze medal won by Shingo Suetsugu in the Men’s 200 metres.
