SPOTLIGHT ON A PARIS 2003 SAINT-DENIS VOLUNTEER (7/10)
Paris 2003 Saint-Denis
These dedicated men and women will be working selflessly behind the scenes to make the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics a resounding success. In recognition of their commitment, the Organising Committee will be regularly putting one of them under the spotlight.
Paris born Jean-Paul SINQUIN today lives a mere stone’s throw away from the magnificent Stade de France®, a stadium he watched being built with great interest.
Trained as an agricultural engineer, he joined a regiment of the Dragoons at the age of 24 and moved to Drancy, in Seine-Saint-Denis, a few years later.
After serving in Algeria, he left the army in 1962 and began working in agriculture, a field he remained in up until his retirement in 1996. His long and distinguished career – which saw him criss-cross France and travel abroad many times – led to him being awarded the “Officier du Mérite Agricole” decoration.
Although he has never practiced a great deal of sport himself, a sense of fair play has always been part of Jean-Paul’s make up. He was a volunteer at the Football World Cup in 1998, managing a ticket desk, and that experience led him to join the Sports Volunteers Club. Since then he has been involved in a whole host of sporting events in the Ile-de-France region (he has manned the stands at Golden League meetings, helped out at Paris marathons and 10 and 20 km races). Now he can’t wait to be part of the action at the World Championships in his volunteer role as stand section manager at the Stade de France®.
