VOLUNTEERS PORTRAITS |
SPOTLIGHT ON A PARIS 2003 SAINT-DENIS VOLUNTEER (10/10)
Paris 2003 Saint-Denis
These dedicated men and women will be working selflessly behind the scenes to make the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics a resounding success. In recognition of their commitment, the Organising Committee will be regularly putting one of them under the spotlight.
How many Volunteers at this summer’s World Championships in Athletics can boast they know John Drummond and Ato Boldon, rub shoulders with Frankie Fredericks at race meetings and get invited to official functions by Tony Dess? At least one! Muriel Adelé is her name, and the track is her second home. "Bronze spike" winner in the quadrathlon, Var and Côte d’Azur 800m champion at junior and then youth level, she is quite an athlete herself.

| With John Drummond... |
Not that 27 year-old Muriel allowed her love for track and field to detract her from her academic pursuits. She picked up a degree in Economic Science before taking up a post as a teacher in her home town of La Seyne sur Mer.
She also found time to qualify as a Federal Monitor 1st Degree so as to be able to pass on her love for athletics to children.
 |
| ... and Marion Jones |
She’s a regular at the major European meetings (Paris, Lausanne, Nice, Monaco, Zurich) where her social and language skills have helped her make friends with some of the world’s great athletes.
Taking part in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics and helping to serve those top athletes in her role as an escort is a natural progression for this inveterate athletics fan.
