The curtain has come down on the 9th World Championships in Athletics. The Closing Ceremony marked the official end to the event, but as the fans headed for the gates, the Organising Committee was already limbering up for one last race against time.

Over 550,000 spectators attended the 9th World Championships in Athletics, putting an overwhelming seal of public approval on a hugely successful event. Prefect Jean Dussourd, President of the Organising Committee, was keen to thank all those who made the occasion so memorable.

Japanese sprinter Shingo Suetsugu has gone down in history at these World Championships. A bronze medal in the 200 metres makes him the first-ever Asian sprinter to make a podium in any world competition, Olympic Games included!
