Michel Jazy, what does your role as
chairman of the Paris 2003 Saint-Denis
Sponsorship Committee consist of?
Paris 2003 Saint Denis and its chairman Jean
Dussourd want to put together a team of high-profile
individuals, all passionate about athletics,
for the 9th IAAF World Championships. To this
end, they have asked me to form a sponsorship
committee comprising people of many
backgrounds and generations.
How many people will sit on the
committee?
Between 30 and 35. So far everyone I have spoken
to has agreed to help. Yes, they are friends, but they
are also fans of the sport and realise that Paris 2003
Saint Denis will be a great event. They are all keen
to increase public interest in the Championships
over the next year.
So far, who do you have on your list?
The first person I turned to was my old rival,
Michel Bernard. Of course, there are other
athletes involved, including Guy Drut, Roger
Bambuck, Jocelyn Delecour and Pierre Quinon.
Then you have other sportsmen and women as
well as people from other walks of life, journalists
and celebrities, all with a love of athletics: Pierre
Albaladejo, HSH Hereditary Prince Albert of
Monaco, Luc Alphand, Jean Hugues Anglade,
Patrick Baudry, Valerie Barlois-Leroux, Serge
Blanco, Jean-Claude Bouttier, Carolyn Carlson,
DJ Cut Killer, Michel Drucker, Laura Flessel,
Olivier de Kersauson, Jean-Claude Killy, Roxana
Maracineanu, Yannick Noah, Robert Pariente,
Laure Pequegnot, Patrick Poivre dArvor, Marie-Claire
Restoux, Dominique Rocheteau, Thierry
Roland, Professor Gerard Saillant and Guy Savoy.
I am still waiting to hear from a couple of top
sports stars, including a member of France's
football team.

proud to be playing a role in this great adventure
and I expect these 9th IAAF World
Championships in Athletics to be a great festival
for world athletics and for the people of France. I am convinced that they will be a huge success."
