On behalf of the IAAF, I am delighted to write this
message of goodwill on the occasion of the first
bulletin of the 9th IAAF World Championships in
Athletics in Paris in 2003.
There is no doubt in my mind that our sport needs to
ensure the maximum exposure for its biggest event,
and since 1983 the World Championships have
grown steadily to rank behind the Olympics and
Soccer World Cup in terms of public and media
interest, and especially TV ratings...More

For the first time in the F.F.A.'s history, France has been selected
by the International Association of Athletics Federations to host
the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics from 23 to 31
August 2003 at the Stade de France®.
The organisation of such an event represents a real challenge for
our federation and for the public and private partners brought
together as part of the Paris 2003 Saint-Denis Public Interest
