"A great honour but also a sign of faith"
The hosting of the 9th IAAF World Championships in
Athletics in 2003 at Paris Saint-Denis, in the magnificent
Stade de France®, is the perfect opportunity for the
French sporting movement to put on a show in a spirit of
human solidarity and understanding.
For our nation as a whole and the Organising Committee
in particular, welcoming athletes from all over the globe
for the premier Olympic sport is not only a great honour,
but also a sign of the faith placed in us by the
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Personal experience has taught me that the ability to rise
to a challenge and determination to see a project
through to its fruition are the two decisive factors in the
success of such an event.
For the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, I am
confident that our mutual enthusiasm and effervescence
will ensure an out-and-out success both in and around
the stadium
