ACCOMMODATION ATHLETES VILLAGE
ATHLETES VILLAGE

The Organising Committee for the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics have chosen to celebrate the time-honoured values of friendship and cultural exchange. For one of the first time in the history of the World Championships in Athletics, the delegations will all be housed at an “Athletes Village”, thus propagating a friendly, feel-good atmosphere beyond the confines of the Stade de France®.

Safety and privacy first
Each one of the 210 delegations will be accommodated at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, in the south of the capital. Athletes will be able to relax and unwind before and after competition in a private and totally safe environment as of 15 August. For those athletes who wish to acclimatise themselves earlier, 21 pavilions in the village have opened their doors since 3 August (3,000 beds). The comfortable conditions in the verdant Cité are perfect for helping athletes prepare themselves mentally and physically for competition. ronment as of 15 August. Ten House Managers in charge of the everyday running of the residences will work hand in hand with a team of 80 Volunteers who will chaperone the 210 delegations and help with any difficulties that may arise.

Personal service
Athletes will be able to fine-tune themselves for their event in the Village fitness rooms and training field or at the neighbouring Charléty stadium – only a stone’s throw away. The verdant 34 hectares setting, boasting of a multimedia room, a leisure centre, a library, a cinema, a pub and a hairdresser make the Cité the ideal place for athletes to relax. A marquee will also be erected at the heart of the village, where athletes can watch action from the stadium by day and enjoy concerts in the evenings. Various Village eateries (cafeteria, restaurant) will be open 20 hours a day to cater to people of all religious persuasions and with different eating habits.

The Athletes Village acclaimed
Comfortable, top class facilities, a friendly atmosphere - such was how the delegations described the future Athletes Village when they visited the CIUP on 28 and 29 October 2002 and on 17 March 2003. Their enthusiasm was echoed by members of the media who also visited the site on 17 April 2003.
